MEA Agar Plates 90mm — Pack of 10
Ten pre-poured MEA (Malt Extract Agar) plates ready for your culture work. These are blank plates — no culture included — giving you a clean canvas for transfers, isolation, testing, and expansion. Stack them, pour your transfers, and build your culture library from the ground up.
What They're For
- Culture work & isolation: Take tissue transfers, sector selections, or spore germination work to isolate clean, vigorous genetics.
- Expansion: Transfer cultures from slants, LC, or colonized grain to build up volume before a big grow.
- Testing: Drop a drop of LC on agar to verify it's clean before committing to a full grow — catch contamination early and save your substrate.
Who Needs Them
Serious cultivators doing agar work, anyone isolating strains or testing cultures, and growers ready to take control of their own culture management. If you're moving beyond syringe-to-grain and want to see what's growing before you commit, these plates are your window.
Specifications

- Seal with parafilm and incubate at species-appropriate temperature.
- Observe growth and take transfers once clean mycelium is visible.
Storage
Store wrapped plates at room temperature (65-75°F) or refrigerated at 35-45°F. Use within 60 days of receipt for best results. Inspect for contamination or drying before use.
Quality & COA
Each plate is poured under sterile conditions and visually inspected for contamination before packaging. Representative plates from each batch are tested for sterility.
How to Use This Agar / Slant Culture
- Work in a sterile environment — use a still air box or laminar flow hood. Sanitize all surfaces and tools.
- Transfer a wedge of colonized agar to a new agar plate or grain bag using a sterile scalpel or loop.
- Seal the plate with parafilm or tape to prevent contamination.
- Incubate at 70-75°F and watch for mycelial growth spreading across the new medium.
Uses: Agar plates and slants are ideal for strain isolation, expansion, and long-term storage. Slants are especially useful for preserving genetics in a compact, long-lasting format.
What's in the Box

If this is your first grow, we recommend starting with a All-in-One Grow Bag or a Ready-to-Fruit Block — both are designed for beginners and require minimal equipment. For liquid culture use, you'll also need a grain spawn bag and a substrate bag. Check out our growing guides for step-by-step instructions.
