Inoculated Agar Slants — High-Demand Strains (5-Pack)

Five pre-inoculated MEA agar slants featuring our most popular strains. Slants are the preferred format for long-term culture storage — the angled agar surface provides more surface area in a compact tube, and the deep media column gives cultures a longer shelf life than flat plates. Each slant has a clean, growing culture ready for transfers.

What They're For

Agar slants are the gold standard for culture banking. Use them to:

  • Store working strains: Keep your best cultures viable for months in refrigerated slants.
  • Expand cultures: Transfer from slant to grain, LC, or plates when you're ready to run a grow.
  • Maintain genetic library: Build a backup collection of your favorite strains so you never lose a good culture.

Who Needs Them

Serious cultivators, culture bankers, and anyone building a long-term strain library. If you've lost a great culture to contamination or time and swore you'd back it up next time — these are the backup.

Specifications

  • Media: MEA (Malt Extract Agar)
  • Format: Slant tubes with angled agar
  • Quantity: 5 slants, pre-inoculated with high-demand strains
  • Status: Cultures actively growing on arrival

How to Use

  • Work in front of a flow hood or still-air box.
  • Open slant and take a small wedge transfer with a sterilized tool.
  • Transfer to grain, LC, or fresh agar plates.
  • Re-cap and refrigerate slant for long-term storage.

Storage

Store slants capped and refrigerated at 35-45°F for long-term culture storage. Cultures can remain viable for 6-12 months under refrigeration. Let slants warm to room temperature before opening to prevent condensation. Inspect for contamination before use.

Quality & COA

Each slant is poured and inoculated under sterile conditions. Cultures are visually inspected for cleanliness and growth vigor before release. Representative slants are test-transferred to confirm viability.

How to Use This Agar / Slant Culture

  1. Work in a sterile environment — use a still air box or laminar flow hood. Sanitize all surfaces and tools.
  2. Transfer a wedge of colonized agar to a new agar plate or grain bag using a sterile scalpel or loop.
  3. Seal the plate with parafilm or tape to prevent contamination.
  4. Incubate at 70-75°F and watch for mycelial growth spreading across the new medium.

Uses: Agar plates and slants are ideal for strain isolation, expansion, and long-term storage. Slants are especially useful for preserving genetics in a compact, long-lasting format.

What's in the Box

  • 5-pack of inoculated agar plates or slant tubes
  • Sealed and sterilized for safe transport

Shipping & Storage

All orders ship within 1-2 business days from our Colorado facility. Liquid cultures ship in insulated packaging to maintain viability. Store LC syringes in the refrigerator (35-45°F) until use. Grain spawn and substrate bags should be used within 2 weeks of delivery for best results. Ready-to-fruit blocks can be stored at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.

Our Clean-or-Replace Guarantee

Every liquid culture is test-inoculated on agar before release to verify purity and viability. If your culture arrives contaminated or fails to colonize, contact us within 14 days with a photo and we'll send a free replacement. No return required.

New to Mushroom Growing?

If this is your first grow, we recommend starting with a All-in-One Grow Bag or a Ready-to-Fruit Block — both are designed for beginners and require minimal equipment. For liquid culture use, you'll also need a grain spawn bag and a substrate bag. Check out our growing guides for step-by-step instructions.
