MEA Slant Tubes — Pack of 5
Five pre-poured MEA (Malt Extract Agar) slant tubes ready for your culture work. These are blank slants — no culture included — giving you a compact, space-efficient alternative to plates for maintaining clean cultures over extended periods. Perfect for smaller culture libraries or growers who want to try slant storage without committing to a full 10-pack.
What They're For
- Long-term culture storage: Store your working strains in refrigerated slants — compact enough to fit in a fridge door.
- Transfers & strain banking: Inoculate from plates, LC, or grain to build a backup library of your best cultures.
- Clean expansion: Use slants as a clean intermediate step between master cultures and production runs.
Who Needs Them
Serious cultivators maintaining a small culture library, anyone new to slant storage, and growers who want a reliable backup format for their best strains. If you're ready to start banking genetics but don't need 10 slants at once, this 5-pack is the right starting point.
Specifications
- Media: MEA (Malt Extract Agar)
- Format: Slant tubes with angled agar
- Quantity: 5 blank slants
- Status: Pre-poured, sterile, ready to use
How to Use
- Work in front of a flow hood or inside a still-air box.
- Open slant and inoculate with spore solution, LC drop, tissue transfer, or agar wedge.
- Re-cap and incubate at species-appropriate temperature until growth is visible.
- Refrigerate for long-term storage once colonized.
Storage
Store capped slants refrigerated at 35-45°F until ready to use. Blank slants are stable for 60-90 days under refrigeration. Inoculated slants can remain viable for 6-12 months under refrigeration. Let warm to room temperature before opening to prevent condensation.
Quality & COA
Each slant is poured under sterile conditions and visually inspected for contamination before packaging. Representative slants from each batch are tested for sterility.
How to Use This Agar / Slant Culture
- Work in a sterile environment — use a still air box or laminar flow hood. Sanitize all surfaces and tools.
- Transfer a wedge of colonized agar to a new agar plate or grain bag using a sterile scalpel or loop.
- Seal the plate with parafilm or tape to prevent contamination.
- Incubate at 70-75°F and watch for mycelial growth spreading across the new medium.
Uses: Agar plates and slants are ideal for strain isolation, expansion, and long-term storage. Slants are especially useful for preserving genetics in a compact, long-lasting format.
What's in the Box
- 5-pack of inoculated agar plates or slant tubes

If this is your first grow, we recommend starting with a All-in-One Grow Bag or a Ready-to-Fruit Block — both are designed for beginners and require minimal equipment. For liquid culture use, you'll also need a grain spawn bag and a substrate bag. Check out our growing guides for step-by-step instructions.
